Two-month-old babies Abigail, Mckayla, Grace and Emily Webb, from Alberta, Cᴀɴᴀᴅᴀ, were ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇd naturally – the chance is approximately one in 15 million. The chance of having a quadruple child without the assistance of fertility treatments is one in 729,000, while ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ siblings are even rarer.
The couple Bethani, 22, and Tim Webb, 23, exchanged their vows in June, and like many very casual lovers, they started thinking about having children. In fact, they were delighted to learn the September they had been looking forward to. But when the couple went for their first ultrasound, they were sᴜʀᴘʀɪsᴇd to learn that Bethani was Pʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with four. Bethani said: ” I could not believe it, I was in such sʜᴏᴄᴋ. Honestly, I thought the ultrasound tech was joking.”
During the ultrasound, Bethani said she saw technicians looking at and pointing at two different areas of the screen. Therefore, she had assumed that she would have twins. She said: “She turned the screen and started counting babies and she counted babies one, baby two, baby three… I was thinking ‘OK, you can stop at baby three’ is enough’ – and she counts out the fourth baby. That’s when I was about to fall! I definitely did go through some panic ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋs.”
Because there is no family history of multiple births in the family of Bethani and Tim, and the couple also did not use fertility ᴅʀᴜɢs or IVF to ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇ a child, the news of their pregnancy is even more astounding. Doctors say ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ quadruplets are rare. As of 2007, there have been approximately 3,500 recorded quadruplets worldwide. One of the nurses working at the hospital said this is one in 67 million cases.
They were born via C-section on May 6 when Bethani was 33 weeks old. All are healthy, growing, active and doing well.
Last month, the ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ quads: Abigail, Mckayla, Grace and Emily Webb had a cute photo session. The images were taken by Cassandra Jones of Noelle Mirabella Photography in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Jones said: “All the Gɪʀʟs are amazing. Absolutely no Tᴇᴀʀs. In fact, they didn’t even lift an eyelid. They slept like little angels during the shoot.”
“With the exception of the smallest of the Gɪʀʟs, Abigail, my assistants and I couldn’t tell them apart from their clothes. Before dressing them up, we constantly check their bracelets in the hospital to see who it is,” Jones said.
To help distinguish the ears, the Gɪʀʟs just pierced their ears with different colored earring sets. Abby is blue, Emily is purple, Grace is red and Mckayla is pink, their mother said.
