Due to a rare occurrence, a set of California twins recently celebrated their birthdays on different days, months, and years.
On New Year’s Eve, at 11:45 p.m. local time on Friday evening, Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo of Greenfield welcomed a son called Alfredo into the world. On New Year’s Day, the couple welcomed Alfredo’s twin sister, Aylin, only 15 minutes after the clock struck midnight.
Madrigal said in a statement published by the California medical institution, “It’s odd to me that they’re twins and have different birthdays.” She arrived at midnight, which surprised and delighted me.”
The twins’ birth was “one of the most memorable deliveries of my career,” according to Dr. Ana Abril Arias, a family doctor at the center.
“It was an absolute pleasure to assist these little ones in safely arriving in 2021 and 2022,” she said. What a fantastic way to start the year!”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 120,000 twin births occur in the United States each year, accounting for about 3% of all births. Twins with different birthdays, on the other hand, are very rarer, with a one-in-two million chance.
According to WRTV, an Indiana mother gave birth to twins born in different decades, which is an even rarer occurrence. Dawn Gilliam and Jason Tello welcomed twins Joslyn and Jaxson into their family. Joslyn was born at 11:37 p.m. on December 31, 2019. Her brother arrived 30 minutes later, at 12:07 a.m. on January 1, 2020. Gilliam described herself as “shocked” at the time.
Madrigal’s twins, meanwhile, will be greeted by their three elder siblings, two girls and a boy.. Madrigal said her oldest son is overjoyed that one of the babies is a boy. Her family was ecstatic to meet them, she says.
